Much fuss is occasionally created as to what constitutes a ‘government’ pension.
Whilst there is no definitive list as this changes, ‘government’ pensions - or even income - is any income that is paid by the Paymaster General - such as for the armed forces, police, civil and diplomatic services.
However, there is confusion with regards to some other sources of income, notably those from local authorities, those relating to teachers and university employees, and the NHS. In general, most of these are treated as ‘government’ pensions or incomes, but some exceptions do apply.
Whilst, as stated above, there is no specific list available of what qualifies, the only definitive source of what is and isn’t a ‘government’ income is the Inland Revenue Centre for Non-Residents in Nottingham on +44 151 210 2222.
… and UK Old Age state pensions are not considered to be ‘government’ pensions, but ordinary pensions!
