| The French Fisc has tolerated certain Assurance Vie investments that do not count towards a taxpayer's assessable estate for wealth tax purposes for some time, but they have recently announced (March 2007) that these 'bonus' contracts would not longer be acceptable for ISF mitigation.
However, there are other Assurance Vie investment contracts that do still qualify for exclusion from the assessable estate and which investments are therefore not accountable in the value of the Estate for wealth tax purposes. Indeed, on an estate of some 4m € already suffering nearly some 27 000 € in annual wealth tax, a mere 100 000 € invested in such plans can already save some 1 300 € annually, some almost 5% of the annual wealth tax liability, and this before using other tax mitigation manoeuvres.
